M.I.A. - Paper Planes (DFA Remix)

(my internet is f**ked, I'll post it when i can)

M.I.A. was just in town a couple days ago, I was lucky enough to catch the entire concert. Started with a wicked live hip-hop group, continued on with some Finnish electro DJs (who were fantastic, and only 3 of us were dancing), a 40 minute wait in the angriest crowd EVER, and then....

M.I.A. - Kicking things off with a sweet video about having the minority rebel against the majority, as democratic elections don't do anything anyways.

The show continued for a good hour, with a packed house at EEC. Bass pumping, girls and guys packing the stage, and glorious use of a Trigger Finger.

...they'll freak out...

Justice - Let There Be Light (DJ Funk's Bounce Dat Ass Remix)

http://www.zshare.net/audio/12573293afd45d9d/

I'm in a pretty darn silly mood today, warranting my posting of this track. It's just about as hilarious as my mood. Just try to not dance like a total idiot when it plays.

On second thought, please, dance like an idiot.

Johnny Cash - God's Gonna' Cut You Down (Mondkopf Remix)

http://www.zshare.net/audio/12484162c789700a/

Yes, it's a remix of a wonderful Cash tune. No, it's not going to make you stand up and dance. In fact, this track might make you super-chilled out, or really depressed. One of the two.

Produced by the ever-so-tiny Parisian group Mondkopf, this track reminds me of a chain gang working in 40 degree weather on some deserted southern highway. So good.

Sooner or later...

Moby - Raining Again (Steve Angello's Vocal Mix)

http://www.zshare.net/download/124315247f05c621/

q- What do the following words have in common:
  1. Move
  2. Play
  3. Go
  4. 18
  5. Hotel
a- They're all names of Moby's EPs and albums.

Today's post comes out of my iPod being stuck on random, the weather in Edmonton being wonderfully gray and rainy, and me feeling a severe need for a great house mix. I've been a fan of Moby ever since hearing "Porcelain" for the first time in the early 2000s. This is remixed by Steve Angello of the critically acclaimed Swedish House Mafia (Axwell, Angello, Ingrosso, Prydz). He came to Edmonton last year and played one of the most amazing sets that I have seen/danced to/heard to date.

Combine one of my favorite Moby tracks with the amazing mixology of Steve Angello and you end up with one hell of a house track!

"Loud on your car like bullets on tin."

Hot Chip - (Just Like We) Breakdown (DFA Remix)

http://www.zshare.net/audio/123952338bb9196b/

Yes, it's another post about Hot Chip. I love them, so what. Here's my favorite version of their track "(Just Like We) Breakdown". This song is wonderful enough to be the perfect breakup song. Seriously, THE BEST breakup song. Here's the lyrics for the chorus, for those of you who enjoy singing along.

Come around and around just like we break down
With a fist and a fall we meet with the floor
On the ropes in a hope of making once more
All in the name of what we're not sure

I love belting along with this track while dancing. Remember, it's not the original version, but the DFA remix. In other words, this track should be named the music industry's "How To" on building a song to a super-high climax. go out and purchase as many of the DFA remix albums as you can find, they're solid gold in my opinion.

Divide & Kreate - Sweet Jacqueline

http://www.zshare.net/audio/1234451224faec93/

It's mashup time! If you can't tell from the title, the genius known as Divide & Kreate has mashed Jacqueline by Franz Ferdinand and Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics. It's quick, funny, and wonderfully skank-able. Just TRY not dancing to this one. I betcha' can't.

"I'm gonna have to change this, let's stop for one second."

PS: I thought it would be funny to have a potato masher as the picture for this one, seeing as how D&K don't have any quality photos out there. What.

PUZIQUe - Thomas

http://www.zshare.net/audio/12291288b36ac4c1/

Boys Noize + D.I.M. = PUZIQUe.

I suck at math, but I still like this equation. This glorious track was played by Boys Noize on the album Bugged Out Presents: Suck My Deck Mixed by Boys Noize. You can find copies of it everywhere (even in this post) if you look hard enough.

Happy Hunting.

Shameless Plugging

http://www.zshare.net/audio/120856325f7453e3/

Yeah, the title says it all. This is a shameless plug for my new mixtape. It covers quick mixes of various genres, from deep house to grungy electro, all in 20 or so minutes.

Feel free to tell me what you think, use the comment box!

Erol Alkan Live, at the Gatecrasher Global Gathering 2007

Download it HERE
---
I promised a louder and longer post for all of you, so here it is. Erol Alkan playing a live set at Gatecrasher's Global Gathering 2007. I'm not going to post the full tracklisting, instead I'll let you enjoy your way through this full hour of tunes.

I will tell you, though, that it's jam-packed with Justice, Klaxons, Soulwax Remixes, Herve, Kissy Sell Out, Diplo and...

... Lean & Bounce by Duke Dumont. It's a personal favorite, and has been since it came out.

Ch-ch-check it out.

King Kooba - Big Ole

Download it at mp3space.com
---

It's early morning here, on the 14th of May. Time to chill out, don't you think?

For help with said chilling, we call upon King Kooba, and his track "Big Ole", taken from the compilation record OM: Chilled Vol 2. I'm not usally a big fan of anything on these compilation discs, but unlike most others, Chilled Vol 2 is stuffed full of great chillout tracks.

Check in tomorrow for a "not-so-chilled-out" post.

Peace.

Matisyahu - Spark Seekers Dub

matisyahu - spark seekers.mp3
Download it at mp3space.com
---

It's always the right time for some Hassidic Jewish reggae. Always.

Released in 2006, the band Matisyahu released a record comprised of tunes from
Youth, but dub versions. I don't think enough people have checked this record out. It's wonderful.

Yee-yeah!

ps: I'm trying a new method of posting the tunes. Check it.

U.S.E. - There's Always Music (Live)

http://www.zshare.net/download/11801917b422f31b/

I've been digging through my box of old CDs lately, looking for stuff that I haven't imported to my computer yet. I came across the United State of Electronica's album U.S.E., looked into the sleeve, and found something that I hadn't seen before - a disc of live versions and remixes! I don't know how I overlooked this disc in the first place! (I was probably busy being blown away by the regular album).

Either way, today's track is "There's Always Music", the live version. I hope you like it!

Music's gonna' keep you up all night.

M83 - Let Men Burn Stars

http://www.zshare.net/audio/11760922843cbde2/

Today hasn't been a good day, so I've gone ahead and turned to one of the most genius albums ever created to relax to. It's called Before the Dawn Heals Us by M83. The track is "Let Men Burn Stars", the 11th on the disc.

I hope your day is going better than mine.

Radiohead - Bodysnatchers

http://www.zshare.net/audio/11708791d020538f/

The past couple days of my life have been so epic. Quite frankly, this track could have been on for the past 48 hours, and would have matched the tone of my life. Rebellious, quick, yet chill enough to stick with.

And this track won't get you in trouble with the police.

(Unless you play it too loud in a park past 11pm, with a bunch of open liquor.)

Mark Mendez - Beneath You

http://www.zshare.net/audio/1160592733ed332b/

This track defines a killer use of sub-bass. Crank up your system and your subs for the 1:00 mark, you'll thank me later. (Unless your sub blows out. I warned you...) If you're wondering what the Cr2 photo is for, Mark got "Beneath You" on this year's Cr2 Presents Live And Direct: Miami 2008, a compilation of house and minimal tracks which I'm diggin' hard.

Happy Eardrum-Rupturing!

PS: Sorry for not posting for a few days, I've been a) recovering from Erol and b) in Calgary.

Death From Above 1979 - Romantic Rights (Erol Alkan's Love From Below Re-Edit)

http://www.zshare.net/download/11380321695d419d/

(I win the prize for having the longest post title ever)

Who doesn't love rocking out to Death From Above 1979?
Who doesn't love Erol Alkan?
Who doesn't love this track?

Not I.
